This film is inspired by a 14th century Mester de Clerecía work. The plot takes place in medieval Spain. Manolo is the protagonist of the story, playing Juan Ruíz (a renowned poet), who continues his fight for good love. Protected from Zubeida, the owner of the bathhouse, he composes his verses and recites them to the people. By some of them he has differences with the religious authority and is imprisoned. An envoy of the Archbishop of Toledo releases him trying to convince him to enter the service of the Church.
