Until the 1950s, the Social Democratic Party (SP) and trade unions led the Swiss workers’ culture, but these institutions gradually lost significance. The working population was divided into “locals” and “migrants”. Today, the term “working class” has gone out of use, and the term “worker” has become synonymous with “foreigner”.
