Frederick Sullivan was the nephew of composer Sir Arthur Sullivan of Gilbert & Sullivan fame. His father was Sir Arthur's older brother Frederic Thomas Sullivan (1837-1877) On Frederick's death Sir Arthur stepped in and helped support Frederick's widow and raise the family of 8 children. The movie actor's actual name was Frederic Richard Sullivan.
