萨拉·鲁尔（Sarah Ruhl）Sarah Ruhl is an award winning playwright and essayist. Recipient of a MacArthur "genius" award, a two time Pulitzer Prize finalist, and a Tony nominee, her plays include The Clean House, In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play, and Eurydice, which was named one of the most significant plays of the last twenty-five years by the New York Times. Her plays have been translated into over twelve languages and are produced across the country and internationally. Her collection of essays, 100 Essays I Don't Have Time to Write, was named a Times Notable book. She recently co-authored Letters from Max, a book of poems and songs with Max Ritvo. She teaches at Yale School of Drama and lives in Brooklyn with her family. Originally, she intended to be a poet. However, after she studied under Paula Vogel at Brown University (A.B., 1997; M.F.A., 2001), she was persuaded to switch to playwriting. Her first play was The Dog Play, written in 1995 for one of Vogel's classes. Her roots in poetry can be seen in the way she uses language in her plays. She also did graduate work at Pembroke College, Oxford. In September 2006, she received a MacArthur Fellowship. The announcement of that award stated: "Sarah Ruhl, 32, playwright, New York City. Playwright creating vivid and adventurous theatrical works that poignantly juxtapose the mundane aspects of daily life with mythic themes of love and war."
