Nathan Kitada was born in San Francisco, California, and raised in Portola Valley, CA. He attended Yale University, graduating in 2005 with a double-major in "Theater Studies" and "Ethnicity, Race, and Migration." In 2007, he garnered an MFA in Directing from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, CA, where he now resides.
