Janusz Morgenstern has made mostly war films. One I watched recently and enjoyed very much is Potem nastapi cisza (And All Will Be Quiet), which has a handful of famous Polish actors in it, and is extremely well made. The black-and-white cinematography is stunning at times, with great compositions, and the film's two battle scenes, one set in a town square and the other on a more conventional battlefield, have elements of The Battle of Algiers, which came out the same year I believe, and Paths of Glory in them, respectively.
